Water marbling is a creative method that uses water and different shades of colors for a unique look. Get the following materials ready: A basecoat and two or three colors that mix well together, like light blue, yellow and white. A shallow,  cup or bowl filled almost to the egde with room temperature water.

Create a leopard print. For this look choose two colors: a light and a dark. Try orange black.

Use the lighter color to make  spots on your nails. The shapes don't have to be same or alike.

When the spots dry, draw "C" or "U" shapes around the outsides of the blobs using the darker color. 

When the leopard spots are dry, finish with a clear top coat - or, for added style, paint over the design with a clear sparkly nail polish.

Create a watercolor effect. In this case you'll need two or more colors: white, and another color or two of your choice.

• Apply the white polish as the base coat.
• Before the base coat dries, use a toothpick to place dots in another color or two on top of the base coat.
• Dip a large brush in nail polish remover and dab it onto the drops of polish. Use nail polish remover and the brush to thin and smear the dots over the white base coat. If you're successful, you'll have a stylish design.
• When the watercolor design is dry, apply a clear top coat.

Create simple dots. Choose two colors, a base coat and a dot color. If you like, you can use multiple colors for the dots.

• Apply the basecoat color. Allow it to dry completely.
• Dip a small brush into the polish you chose for the dots and lightly tap the utensil on your nail. Continue doing this until your nail has as many dots as you want. For other effects, you can create dots of various sizes by using thinner or thicker-tipped brushes. To make fading dots, dip the brush in the paint once and apply several dots without reapplying paint. You can also use your fine-tipped brush  to drag the paint out from the wet dot to create rays, swirls and other designs.
• When the dots are dry, finish with a clear top coat.

Make acid-washed nails. To apply the look of acid-washed jeans, use blue and white polishes.

• Use the blue color for the base coat. Allow it to dry and apply a clear top coat.
• When these coats have dried, paint a single layer of white polish over the basecoat.
• Dip a makeup sponge in nail polish remover and use it to lightly rub away and thin out the white polish. Stop when enough of the blue layer shows through to create an acid-washed look.
• When the acid wash design has dried, finish with a clear topcoat.

The key to any successful nail design is starting with clean and well-shaped nails. Nails should be neatly trimmed and filed before painting. Even the most accomplished artist can’t create an attractive design on nails that have not been trimmed

Once you’ve painted your nails with a neutral base coat, you can draw your design using a special thin-tipped nail brush. But, you may choose to improvise by creating their designs with a toothpick. Work as fast as possible, since nail polish dries fairly quickly. To save time, have a separate brush for each color of polish.

This is a fun hobby, especially if you're artistic. Another type  of nail art is 3D nail art -- just as the name sounds, it takes the ornaments on the fingernails beyond just paint. 3D nail art usually involves creating tiny sculptures with clay and gluing them to the surface of the fingernails, but nail art supplies like puffy stickers and sparkly rhinestones are also available to create a variety of effects and shades.

While most nail art designs are created simply using various shades of nail polish, you can add sparkle to your designs by mixing glitter into one or more of the polish colors before painting your nails. Once you have finished your design, proper maintenance will help you keep your nail art in neat condition for as long as possible. Apply a coat of protective clear nail polish every two or three days for the duration of your manicure. You can cut a plastic bag in half and do the design on there. Wait about three or four hours to dry and pluck off.

To decorate the nails, manicurist use several tools such as

• Stationery tape/ stickers
• Acetone
• Nail profiler machine (replaceable sanding bands)
• Sponges (to make gradient nails)

To add a glitter effect:

• Mix loose glitter with nail polish and apply it to your nails. When it has dried, add a top coat.
• Cover one or more of your nails with nail polish. Dust the nails with glitter and allow them to dry before finishing off with a top coat.

You can put sticky tape around your nails, to prevent the nail polish getting onto your skin! You can also make a 'crystal' effect, by applying a base coat, then applying your first coat of nail polish, followed by the second coat of nail polish, and then you can add glitter, before applying your nail polish cover.
